Furnishings

Sosua has two very good custom furniture manufacturer's located along the main highway between Sosua and Cabarete. We can provide details.

In addition, there are several lovely furniture stores in Puerto Plata, including the brand new Heidelisa store. Custom furniture can also be ordered through acompany in Navarette at excellent prices. Many clients also venture into Santiago. Please let us know and we can provide information and directions to many furniture stores .

Playero supermarket in Sosua carries many household items, as do many of Sosua's local stores. For items like bedding, kitchenware, towels, personal items, we recommend La Sirena or Casa Nelson in Puerto Plata. La Sirena is very similar to Walmart and has a very well stocked grocery store as well. Any cabdriver knows where the stores are. Santiago offers most everthing that can be found in Canada including Radio Shack, Price Mart (Costco) and others. It is a short 45 minute drive and any driver knows the best places to go. For many items, delivery is generally available.

Groceries

There are many great local supermarkets. Playero is the largest in Sosua and offers all North American brands. Janet's, in Cabarete is also very good. La Sirena and Tropical, both in Puerto Plata, are also excellent grocery stores. These stores are well known in town and easy to find. There are several, local Dominican supermercados that offer cheaper prices, but a little less selection. You will see them dotted throughout town.

Appliances

La Sirena carries major appliance as well as televisions, stereo equipment, etc. The largest ferreteria in Cabarete also offers some great appliances and kitchen items. Sosua has many excellent ferretaria's that offer some of these items. Puerto Plata stores include Casa Nelson and other other smaller ferretarias. Many people also choose to go to Ochoa Hardware and Price Smart (Costco) in Santiago.

Window Coverings

All department stores carry a selection of window coverings. For many of our clients, the option of having customized drapes/curtains at a great price is a welcome change. We are happy to provide some seamstress names and numbers upon request.

Insurance

Auto insurance can be purchased at many outlets throughout Sosua. Home insurance costs anywhere from $400 to $900 per year, depending on how much liability you choose to have. For most clients, the amount suffices.
